Tools and Techniques

Tools of Humane science are Creative Debate and Innovative Science.

Creative Debate: Where debating process represents the spirit of competition creative debate represents the spirit of coopetition. Creative Debate is a tool created to implement coopetition in schools that facilitates students to recognize that real contribution comes from bringing out each individuals strengths, interest and talent. Creative Debate brings out the best qualities in students – listening, empathy, compassion, assertiveness and acceptance. This empowers them to create more collectively than they would have done individually. Creative Debate is a tool that can be used for various purposes such as:

1. Team Building
2. Decision making
3. Problem Solving
4. Brainstorming for new ideas
5. Strategy and project planning
6. Assessing participant behaviour patterns and group dynamics

Innovative science: The process of inquiry is fundamental to innovative science. More than the content of what is taught, it is the process of learning that the student imbibes and learns to apply to other areas. The key objective of Science education is to instill this process in the student’s minds. There are many processes of inquiry. Each process depends on the subject to be taught, the objectives of learning as also the individual style of learning. The methods of inquiry are by no means complete and the student is encouraged to explore and evolve newer methods of learning. Some of the key aspects of any method of learning are:

1. The learning session should arouse the curiosity of the student. It should be inquisitive and interactive.
2. Question based learning is a very popular way of making students discover the principle, the way original inventors did. In this process the student or the teacher or the mentor asks probing questions and the student finds out the answer to these questions. Once the answers are submitted, the next rounds of questions are asked. It is important for the teacher or the student or the mentors to lead the students through blind alleys and make them retract form the blind alleys.
3. Using concepts of cognitive dissonance is essential to the learning process. Cognitive dissonance is a process, where the inquiry process starts form what the student knows and the process quickly leads to an absurd conclusion. The student then understands very clearly their misconceptions.
4. SHFDT methodology (See-hear-feel-do-teach). The student goes through this process of inquiry.
5. Make the students enquire and ask why?
6. As far as possible learning should be based on experiments, projects etc. Theory should be minimal.
